What is Crime Ireland
Its an Irish web site dedicated to informing the public about crime in their locality. Many people don't report crime and often find there is no or little support when they do. You can say whatever you want here, just as long as it doesn’t infringe on liable law. Please don't "add an incident" to be petty. If you do we will edit the text and allow it anyways.

Add the unedited version if you want. We'll keep them on file and if we have a number similar issues then that's validation of an incidence to us and we will publish.

Who are we?
We are a group of volunteers and web site administrators eager to help the community for common good. We are not a political or law enforcement agency and we have no links or affiliations.

Our Aim
We want the public to assist in providing information about crime in their locality so that we can all be more aware of what is going on around us.

Legality
Unfortunately we can’t name names or companies. All addresses are fictional as is all the information contained on the site.

Why?
The internet and social networking site can benefit our common cause to reduce crime and together we can make our communities a better place by keeping each other informed using these modern technologies.

So why build the website? Firstly it’s nice to have a place to vent your anger. Secondly you can inform others about crime in your locality so we can all be one up. That has to be a good thing!

Your Anonymity
No details are collected about you when you add an incident. Its TOTALLY anonymous unless you choose to provide you contact details.

If you do add your email/phone number it’s not shown to anyone other than our administrator or monitor during review.

We may contact you to get an update on the status of your incident after some time. Other may have a similar problem and sharing details may be of benefit also. We will always ask for permission when contacting you first and the questions will be short.

Data Integrity
No information regarding the source of the information is required however monitors review all entries. Incidents are referred to as being ‘valid’ or ‘non-valid’. Not all incidences will be published in the public domain and this is at the discretion of the monitors.

Data & Security
Crime Ireland only report crime in ROI. Data is maintained in Ireland on servers based in Dublin. Many security mechanisms are in place to prevent a security breach. The data is not divulged to law enforcement agencies unless requested by court order.

Acknowledgments

We would like to acknowledge the members and the persons supplying the data without whom we would not exist.

We would like to acknowledge the work of the Gardai and we would like to add that this site is in no way an attack or criticism of the important and courageous work that they do in the community. Gardai resources can only do so much and consider so many types of crime. We hope that the government implements an online crime reporting system in the future. This is present in many other western societies already.

Donations are welcome and will go towards the site and its further development.
